Very fundamental difference with the long term trading with short term time frame is on the psychological side experienced by traders. For a long term trader does not need to monitor price movements continuously in front of the computer, while a short term trader almost always monitor its position and is always looking for an entry point to take a small profit over and over again. And this will greatly affect the psychology of the trader it self.

The different between long term and short term for sure the time frame you see, and also the target you want to make. scalping usually really a short term with target only 5 - 10 pips per trade. While swing trading is more to medium to long term which for sure targeting more than 50 pips. And I think Long term is good then short term, because we dont have to sit infront of the computer long time and no everyday tension, just buy or sell it and then forget for some days. It's just my opinion based on my trading style.

Long term and short term is two diferent trading strategy. This two strategy can be handle by one trader with no hassle. NOrmally traders with small amount or invest, do short term trading. And some corporate level offices, Banks and some others with huge invest do long term invest and trading. Long term trading basis on monthly statement of the market but short term trading even can be done by 15 minutes time frame strategy.

I think long term trading is trade with higher time frame like monthly, weekly and daily. When trader analysis with higher timeframe then they can find longer term trading point. If trader want to trade short term trading then they can also need to do analysis properly then it is also very useful for short term trading.

long term has a good effect for traders. in this way they can learn forex well. long term trade gives us more experience than short term trade. long term is the weekly or monthly trade and short term is the 5 minutes or 1 hour trade. but short term does not teach us well and do not give any experience for forex market. long term trade gives us a good regular profit. but you need to know how to do it.

long term trading is more suitable for the traders who invest high investment and want a heavy profit in return. many traders with small capitals trade in short term and close their trades by securing small profits, we have to keep in mind that we have to manage free margin while trading because free margin allows us to stay in forex market and long term trading needs high investments,

the differences between long term and short term is only for their time in trading.
for long term trading can take weeks until months to close trading position.
for short term trading only take less than a weeks to close trading position.
the other differences are long term should be open when the trend start to begin and short term can make entry in every chart which the trend has already start half way.

But for me I still lay emphasis that short term trading is the use of short time frame to trade and while long term trading require that you get the long time frame in working mode and continue to trader in this higher time frame like the likely chart
